After the Second World War, the Netherlands struggled with overpopulation and a bad financial
situation. The Dutch government promoted emigration to, for example, Canada or Australia. One
particular town in Brabant massively responded to this promotion: Uden. But why? Was living in Uden
that bad? Were these people keener to travel? Or was it the ‘Udensche Courant’, the local newspaper,
which published raving articles about emigration?
Over De Oude Ambachten
De Oude Ambachten has been participating in the Brabantsedag for 15 years. In the meantime we have grown to a group of over 100 members, in which the youth has played an increasingly important role. The children from our early years now fill many committees and are the driving force in construction. We are very proud of that! DOA stands for doing together, conviviality and every year a surprising contribution.
